SUMMARY:Community Day at the John James Audubon Center
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 20th is Community Day at the John James Audubon Center. Everyone is invited to enjoy food\, drinks\, and music as we celebrate cultural connections to nature\, fall migration\, and birds’ unique ability to unite us all. \nFestivities will include traditional Mexican folk dance\, classical Indian dance\, activities for kids\, bird-themed facepainting and henna tattoos\, food trucks\, local breweries\, canoeing\, and more! \nThis year’s Community Day will also coincide with our new fall/winter art exhibit. Tree of Life is a solo exhibition by Natessa Amin featuring bird-inspired artworks from her Split Inheritance series. The project considers the “tree of life” as a symbol that appears across cultures\, generations\, and histories. \nA selection of Árboles de la Vida (trees of life) sculptures created by local community art circles and Las Artivistas from CCATE – Center of Culture\, Art\, Training and Education – will also be on view as part of the Tree of Life exhibition. These Mexican clay sculptures were originally created for religious purposes\, but many have expanded to explore themes such as the duality of life and death and humanity’s relationship with nature\, while still retaining traditional elements like Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. \nScheduled Community Day Experiences Include: \nAudubon Bird Ambassador – 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm \nFabulous Faces Facepainting – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm \nArt Of Henna by Aswini Henna Tattoos – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm \nHistoric House Open (self-guided) – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Includes access to Tree of Life art exhibition and CCATE Árboles de la Vida sculptures) \nBirding by Canoe (bilingual) – 3:00 pm\, 3:45 pm\, 4:30 pm\, and 5:15 pm (Advanced registration is recommended but not required. Email millgrove@audubon.org.) \nSri Sai Nataraja Academy of Kuchipudi dance performance – 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm \nBallet Folklorico Yaretzi Mexican folk dance performance – 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm \n  \nStarting at 3:00\, a shuttle will run at 30-minute intervals between CCATE\, located at 1246 W. Main Street in Norristown\, and the John James Audubon Center. Last departure from the Center will be at 7:00. No reservations are needed. \nShuttle\, activities\, and museum admission are FREE all day. \nFood and beverages available for purchase. Must be 21 years or older to be served alcohol. \n

SUMMARY:Early American Candle Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates for their first annual Early American Candle Making & Educational Workshop with Heritage Art and Craft Studio. Journey back in time with Greg and Peggy Geesaman to learn the art of crafting candles with natural beeswax. Participants will take part in the careful and significant process of candle dipping\, a traditional Early American method\, as they create your own double wick 100% beeswax hand-dipped candle. In addition\, participants will make a 5″ cinnamon scented display ornament\, by a method similarly used by German Lebkuchen Bakers in the sixteenth century from a Stoneware Cookie mold (designs vary). A Historic Presentation from Colonial period interpreters during class will reveal some interesting facts about Early American Living and the history of candle making in the eighteenth century. \nHeritage Art and Craft Studio is co-owned by Greg Geesaman and Peggy Allen-Geesaman. For over fifty years\, Greg has dedicated himself to the study of American History\, as well as gardening\, landscaping\, agriculture\, and environmental preservation. He shares his knowledge with others through educational seminars\, classes\, and workshops. Peggy\, a native of Berks County\, has dedicated over 30 years to teaching art and crafts. Before launching her own business in the 1990s\, she worked in retail marketing. While she offers a wide range of classes\, her true passion lies in Traditional American crafts. She stays informed of current historical trends as a member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD). \nThis is a beginner-level workshop and is open to all ages if accompanied by an adult. Registration is required for the workshop\, and a form can be obtained by emailing us at thedanielboonehomestead@gmail.com. Daniel Boone Homestead Associate Members $45 and Non-Members $50. All supplies are included. All proceeds go to support the Daniel Boone Homestead. Space is limited to 10 participants. This program is funded and provided by the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates

SUMMARY:Remembrance Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us for the Remembrance Day Ceremony marking the 249th anniversary of the Battle of Brandywine\, held on September 11 at 6 PM. Here\, on the fields that witnessed the largest single day of combat in the American Revolution\, the course of the Philadelphia campaign was shaped in smoke and determination. In this place where American\, British\, and Hessian soldiers fell\, we gather in solemn reflection to honor their lives and to remember the weight of the struggle that unfolded across this landscape. Their sacrifice still echoes and we commemorate it with gratitude and reverence.
