DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 20th is Community Day at the John James Audubon Center. Everyone is invited to enjoy food\, drinks\, and music as we celebrate cultural connections to nature\, fall migration\, and birds’ unique ability to unite us all. \nFestivities will include traditional Mexican folk dance\, classical Indian dance\, activities for kids\, bird-themed facepainting and henna tattoos\, food trucks\, local breweries\, canoeing\, and more! \nThis year’s Community Day will also coincide with our new fall/winter art exhibit. Tree of Life is a solo exhibition by Natessa Amin featuring bird-inspired artworks from her Split Inheritance series. The project considers the “tree of life” as a symbol that appears across cultures\, generations\, and histories. \nA selection of Árboles de la Vida (trees of life) sculptures created by local community art circles and Las Artivistas from CCATE – Center of Culture\, Art\, Training and Education – will also be on view as part of the Tree of Life exhibition. These Mexican clay sculptures were originally created for religious purposes\, but many have expanded to explore themes such as the duality of life and death and humanity’s relationship with nature\, while still retaining traditional elements like Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. \nScheduled Community Day Experiences Include: \nAudubon Bird Ambassador – 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm \nFabulous Faces Facepainting – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm \nArt Of Henna by Aswini Henna Tattoos – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm \nHistoric House Open (self-guided) – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Includes access to Tree of Life art exhibition and CCATE Árboles de la Vida sculptures) \nBirding by Canoe (bilingual) – 3:00 pm\, 3:45 pm\, 4:30 pm\, and 5:15 pm (Advanced registration is recommended but not required. Email millgrove@audubon.org.) \nSri Sai Nataraja Academy of Kuchipudi dance performance – 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm \nBallet Folklorico Yaretzi Mexican folk dance performance – 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm \n  \nStarting at 3:00\, a shuttle will run at 30-minute intervals between CCATE\, located at 1246 W. Using simple tools like magnifying glasses\, you will uncover the Arboretum’s plants\, animals\, and other seasonal highlights that bring the woodland trails to life. \nAbout your guide: Forest Knight is one of Tyler’s Lead Educators. They help run Tyler’s school field trips and summer camp programs. They have a love of nature and have worked in the outdoor education field for 4+ years.  \nRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED \nThe program is best suited for elementary school-aged children accompanied by an adult. Family and siblings of any age are welcome. Check in at the Visitor Center\, where you’ll meet your guide. As with any walk at Tyler\, sturdy shoes are suggested. PLEASE NOTE: Strollers may not be ideal on some of our trails. We recommend a carrier if you plan to bring an infant or young child. Weather or other factors may adjust the day’s topic\, but nature will always shine through! DESCRIPTION:We invite you to come out to the Paoli Battlefield on Saturday\, September 26th\, from 11am to 4pm and enjoy this Family Fun event!! Enjoy our American Military Timeline with the help of our friends at Historical Military Impressions. Stroll through each impression and see how the soldiers dressed and what they carried into battle. Feel free to ask questions and learn about our brave fighting veterans. \nStop by and visit with Benjamin Franklin (aka Mike Kochan)\, as he shows you the experiments that Benjamin Franklin did in the 1700’s. Mike has built replicas of some of his experiments for the Franklin Institute\, and the Franklin Court Museum\, both in Philadelphia. \nNoah Lewis will be there to share the story of Ned Hector\, bombardier and member of the Continental army. He helped man the guns and Brandywine and was honored by Norristown naming a street Hector Street. \nVisit and enjoy other historical sites as they explain their connection to the history and culture of the area. You’d be surprised how some of these sites were created and what they do to celebrate their special day at their site. \nWe are very happy to welcome back the USO which has helped support our troops all across the nation. Learn about the great programs they do to help our soldiers and their families. \nWe will have a food trunk or two to help satisfy your appetite while you soak in the history. We have other crafters\, vendors\, and others to help you spend the day with us. \nTo close out the day\, we transition to our honor ceremony where we place wreaths at the gravesite of the 52 fallen men of the Battle of Paoli. We will do the wreath laying\, firing salute\, bagpipes\, and taps to help honor these men\, and all of our armed forces of the United States of America.

Family and siblings of any age are welcome. Check in at the Visitor Center\, where you’ll meet your guide. As with any walk at Tyler\, sturdy shoes are suggested. Dive into the magic of fall with exciting carnival games*\, live music\, face painting* and a whole lot more\, all happening around the Stony Creek Stage (located by Zoo Brew). \n*Event is free to attend with zoo admission. Games and activities may be an additional cost. Tickets must be purchased at the carnival games to play. \nDATES\nWeekends from October 3 – October 25 from 10:00 am- 4:00 pm.
