We invite kids ages 6–10 and their families to imagine what kindness means to them by making their own interactive storybook on iPad. They’ll draw, record sounds, add fun 3D shapes, and more as they dive into the world of creative storytelling. Devices will be provided. For sessions with amplified sound, hearing loop technology is available on request.
Create a theme song for a favorite show, book, or game using GarageBand on iPad. We’ll cover rhythm basics, and kids will experiment with drums, add prerecorded loops, and remix their theme song. Bring your iPad or we’ll provide one. Recommended for ages 8–12. For sessions with amplified sound, hearing loop technology is available on request.
Join SLNC’s awesome Environmental Educator, Tie Matecha, for this great class! Learn how to fold origami butterflies and herons. We will discuss the origins of the ancient art of origami as well as the ecological importance of butterflies and Great Blue Herons. This event is designed for adults and children ages 8+. Join us for a hands-on stained glass workshop where you’ll learn the foundational skills behind this timeless art form. Under the guidance of Annemarie of GlassHen—a small, independent stained glass studio known for crafting one-of-a-kind pieces using traditional Tiffany-style methods—you’ll get hands-on experience with cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering stained glass. (The glass for your final piece will be pre-cut.) Each student will create a flower out of stained glass. This beginner-friendly workshop is open to participants ages 12+ and makes a wonderful mom/dad-and-me outing. Bring the entire family to The Nature Place for a fun-filled aternoon of nature, wildlife, and outdoor adventure! During the Raptor Egg Hunt, kids will hunt for camouflaged "raptor eggs" hidden across the Nature Play Zone - each one filled with candy and stickers for a wild surprise. Then meet real raptors up close during an exciting LIVE bird show, presented by the John James Audubon Center. As the sun sets on this memorable day, we'll keep the good times going with a cozy campfire, complete with hot dogs and s'mores! Please note, end times are approximate. In this thrilling workshop, the world famous game of Dungeons and Dragons comes to life as participants create their own characters, design their own campaigns, and play them out live! Skilled Dungeon Masters and teaching artists will guide the players in this interactive experience incorporating improvisation, design, and even stage combat. It's said a Dog is a Man's Best Friend, but how can your child be your dog's best friend? This one hour workshop will teach your child how to care for a pet dog in a way that responds to the dog's behavior and feelings, going beyond just walks and feeding.
