  • Edible Plants Walk (Rec for ages 12+)

    On Sunday, September 20th from 1 - 3pm, join educators Chris and Greg on a nature walk on our trails! Learn all about foraging for edible wild plants, the do's and don'ts of foraging, and what nature has to offer us right here in our area. Admission is $5/person, and pre-registration is required as space is limited. This walk may include moderate terrain and the trail may be over a mile. Please dress for the weather and be ready to walk! Adults and kids ages 12 and up are recommended.

  • Early American Candle Making Workshop

    Daniel Boone Homestead 400 Daniel Boone Rd, Birdsboro, PA, United States

    Join the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates for their first annual Early American Candle Making & Educational Workshop with Heritage Art and Craft Studio. Journey back in time with Greg and Peggy Geesaman to learn the art of crafting candles with natural beeswax. Participants will take part in the careful and significant process of candle dipping, a traditional Early American method, as they create your own double wick 100% beeswax hand-dipped candle. In addition, participants will make a 5″ cinnamon scented display ornament, by a method similarly used by German Lebkuchen Bakers in the sixteenth century from a Stoneware Cookie mold (designs vary). A Historic Presentation from Colonial period interpreters during class will reveal some interesting facts about Early American Living and the history of candle making in the eighteenth century. Heritage Art and Craft Studio is co-owned by Greg Geesaman and Peggy Allen-Geesaman. For over fifty years, Greg has dedicated himself to the study of American History, as well as gardening, landscaping, agriculture, and environmental preservation. He shares his knowledge with others through educational seminars, classes, and workshops. Peggy, a native of Berks County, has dedicated over 30 years to teaching art and crafts. Before launching her own business in the 1990s, she worked in retail marketing. While she offers a wide range of classes, her true passion lies in Traditional American crafts. She stays informed of current historical trends as a member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD). This is a beginner-level workshop and is open to all ages if accompanied by an adult. Registration is required for the workshop, and a form can be obtained by emailing us at thedanielboonehomestead@gmail.com. Daniel Boone Homestead Associate Members $45 and Non-Members $50.   • Open Hearth Cooking: The Bake Oven

    The cooks will fire the bake oven to demonstrate the weekly baking of bread and more. Admission: Adults $9 (12-64), Seniors $7 (65+), Children $5 (3-11). Members Free.   • Community Day at the John James Audubon Center

    Sunday, September 20th is Community Day at the John James Audubon Center. Everyone is invited to enjoy food, drinks, and music as we celebrate cultural connections to nature, fall migration, and birds’ unique ability to unite us all. Festivities will include traditional Mexican folk dance, classical Indian dance, activities for kids, bird-themed facepainting and henna tattoos, food trucks, local breweries, canoeing, and more! This year’s Community Day will also coincide with our new fall/winter art exhibit. Tree of Life is a solo exhibition by Natessa Amin featuring bird-inspired artworks from her Split Inheritance series. The project considers the "tree of life" as a symbol that appears across cultures, generations, and histories. A selection of Árboles de la Vida (trees of life) sculptures created by local community art circles and Las Artivistas from CCATE - Center of Culture, Art, Training and Education - will also be on view as part of the Tree of Life exhibition. These Mexican clay sculptures were originally created for religious purposes, but many have expanded to explore themes such as the duality of life and death and humanity’s relationship with nature, while still retaining traditional elements like Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden.     FOR ALL AGES Connect your family with the outdoors on this fun, interactive nature exploration designed to spark curiosity and wonder. Using simple tools like magnifying glasses, you will uncover the Arboretum’s plants, animals, and other seasonal highlights that bring the woodland trails to life. About your guide: Forest Knight is one of Tyler’s Lead Educators. They help run Tyler’s school field trips and summer camp programs. They have a love of nature and have worked in the outdoor education field for 4+ years.  RE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED The program is best suited for elementary school-aged children accompanied by an adult. Family and siblings of any age are welcome. Check in at the Visitor Center, where you’ll meet your guide. As with any walk at Tyler, sturdy shoes are suggested. PLEASE NOTE: Strollers may not be ideal on some of our trails. We recommend a carrier if you plan to bring an infant or young child. Weather or other factors may adjust the day’s topic, but nature will always shine through! In case of inclement weather, the tour will move indoors. MEMBERS:  FREE NON-MEMBERS: $18 per adult; $10 per child ages 3-17; children two and under are free and do not need to be registered. Admission is included in your price, so feel free to stay the day!   • 2026 Paoli Battlefield Heritage Day

    We invite you to come out to the Paoli Battlefield on Saturday, September 26th, from 11am to 4pm and enjoy this Family Fun event!! Enjoy our American Military Timeline with the help of our friends at Historical Military Impressions. Stroll through each impression and see how the soldiers dressed and what they carried into battle. Feel free to ask questions and learn about our brave fighting veterans. Stop by and visit with Benjamin Franklin (aka Mike Kochan), as he shows you the experiments that Benjamin Franklin did in the 1700’s. Mike has built replicas of some of his experiments for the Franklin Institute, and the Franklin Court Museum, both in Philadelphia. Noah Lewis will be there to share the story of Ned Hector, bombardier and member of the Continental army. He helped man the guns and Brandywine and was honored by Norristown naming a street Hector Street. Visit and enjoy other historical sites as they explain their connection to the history and culture of the area. You’d be surprised how some of these sites were created and what they do to celebrate their special day at their site. We are very happy to welcome back the USO which has helped support our troops all across the nation. Learn about the great programs they do to help our soldiers and their families. We will have a food trunk or two to help satisfy your appetite while you soak in the history. We have other crafters, vendors, and others to help you spend the day with us. To close out the day, we transition to our honor ceremony where we place wreaths at the gravesite of the 52 fallen men of the Battle of Paoli. We will do the wreath laying, firing salute, bagpipes, and taps to help honor these men, and all of our armed forces of the United States of America.

  • Paint by the Pond (Kids)

    Is your wild child also a budding artist? Free their inspiration in nature! Overlooking Angelica Creek Park's pond, each child will be situated with their own easel and painting supplies to let their creativity soar. Light refreshments will also be available to sustain their artistic endeavors. It's bound to be an afternoon of creativity, color, and natural inspiration! This program will run concurrently with an adults-only Paint by the Pond program, allowing caregivers to enjoy an afternoon of relaxed painting as well! Pumpkins in Paradise at the Strasburg Rail Road, America’s longest running short line rail road, is a fall event featuring a 45-minute steam train ride through the beautiful Lancaster countryside, paired with a 40 minute stop at Groff’s Picnic Grove. Guests will enjoy fall-themed games, live music, and children will even receive a complimentary pumpkin! This family-friendly tradition returns this year on September 26.   • The Haunting of Pumpkin Junction

    Grab your family and head on down to the 1978 annual Pumpkin Junction Fall Festival, where we celebrate the last Fall train with games, food and, most importantly, the yearly Pumpkin carving contest. But when the contest is mysteriously sabotaged, our gang of amateur sleuths make it their mission to uncover the mystery that lies behind this year’s old tradition. Be a part of the mystery as our group tries to solve the case of the Haunting of Pumpkin Junction. Our show begins 15 minutes before boarding, at our Town Square Stage right at the heart of the station, so please plan to arrive 30 minutes before departure so you don’t miss even one second of this mysterious adventure! The show will continue aboard our beautiful historic train cars and conclude back at the station, so stick around after deboarding and head back over to the Town Square Stage for the haunting conclusion of our mystery.

  • Spiders Campfire 2026

    Join us for our Spiders Campfire on Friday, October 2nd from 7 - 9 pm! Come appreciate the artistic ability of spiders, who spin elaborate webs of all sizes and designs. Enjoy a toasted marshmallow around the campfire and look for web-spun masterpieces outside on our trails. This campfire program will feature a guided night hike around our trails by educator Chris Egnoto and an educational lesson on spiders and arachnids. The program will begin at our campfire circle. Admission is $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Pre-registration is required!
