  • Secrets of the Pond

    FOR ALL AGES Life at the pond is always changing. From the deck of Tyler’s pond, spot frogs, turtles, and tadpoles drifting among the vegetation. Watch water striders skate across the surface and dragonflies zoom through the air. Use a magnifying glass to explore water samples and discover tiny creatures hiding in the pond. If conditions are favorable, observe some water samples under a microscope for an even closer look! About your guide: Sue Fredrick is a long-time Tyler volunteer and naturalist. She is an experienced Tyler docent and a certified PA Master Naturalist. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED  What to expect: This program is best suited for elementary school-aged children. Family and siblings of any age are welcome. Meet your guide at the Visitor Center, then take a leisurely 10-minute walk on paved surfaces to the pond. Several stone steps lead from the paved path to the pond deck. Restrooms are located near the pond. Examine water samples with a magnifying glass. Learn about the plants and animals that live in and around the pond. What to wear and carry: Dress in layers for the weather. Shoes with good tread, suitable for uneven or wet surfaces Water bottle (optional) Pricing: MEMBERS: FREE (Remember to sign into your member account before continuing for your discounts!) Children ages two and under do not need to register. NON-MEMBERS: $18 per adult (18-64), $15 per senior (ages 65+), $10 per child ages 3-17; children ages two and under are free and do not need to register. The non-member fee includes admission, so please feel free to stay for the day! GUEST PASS HOLDERS: (for non-members only): FREE. Please give your guest passes to the Visitor Center Associate at check-in, or inform them that you are accompanying a Family or higher-level member as their guest. This program is free with your guest pass admission, so feel free to stay as long as you’d like after the program!  Please submit a guest pass for each guest. LIBRARY PASS HOLDERS: FREE.     “E.T. phone home.” We’re hosting a series of special drive-in movie screenings in the Zoo’s parking lot! Our September Drive-In Zoovie is E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. In the event of inclement weather, all ticket holders will be notified if a screening is canceled or rescheduled 2 weeks prior to the event. Students will get to explore new experiences within new industries as we celebrate, empower, and inspire the future generation of aviators!   • Fall Festival

    History, Archaeology, & Family Fun! A local favorite, the Fall Festival features a wide variety of historic skills and trades demonstrations, archaeological excavations and activities, displays from local historical organizations, hayrides, and hands-on activities for kids of all ages! In addition there will be vendors of handcrafted goods in the Colonial Market, a beer garden, a Community Corner featuring local businesses and organizations, and food vendors. Admission to the Fall Festival is free. Parking is $10 per car. Shuttle buses between the parking area and the festival site will run every 15 minutes throughout the event.     Celebrate fall, pumpkins… and plenty of scarecrows! Scarecrow Festival on Saturday & Sunday, September 19 & 20 is a weekend of fall family fun including scarecrow-making workshops, pumpkin painting, live musical entertainment, and children’s activities. The event hours are 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on both days. Peddler’s Village shops will be open until 8 p.m. on Saturday. Admission and parking are free. Event is rain or shine. While you’re enjoying the weekend, stroll around to see Scarecrows in the Village, a showcase of over 150 creative and colorful scarecrows designed by members of the public, now in its 47th year!
