  • Drive-In Zoovies: Hocus Pocus

    “Oh, look. Another glorious morning. Makes me sick!” We’re hosting a series of special drive-in movie screenings in the Zoo’s parking lot! Our first Drive-In Zoovie in October is Hocus Pocus (1993). See below for tickets and details. Zoovies | Hocus Pocus (1993) | 1hr 36m | Rated PG October 3 | 7:00 PM – Parking Lot Opens | 8:00 PM – Film Begins Tickets and Info* Adult Guest | $15 per adult Child Guest | $12 per child * Guests must indicate how many cars they are bringing when purchasing tickets. Tickets are required for each guest (adult and child) attending. The parking lot will be open at 7 PM, and the film will begin at 8 PM. Our drive-in screenings are held in the former softball field section of the Zoo’s parking lot. Concessions will be available for purchase during the film. In the event of inclement weather, all ticket holders will be notified if a screening is canceled or rescheduled 2 weeks prior to the event. The radio station frequency broadcasting the film’s audio to cars will be provided to ticket holders in advance of the event.

  • Zoo Snooze

    Discover what happens at the zoo after the sun goes down at Elmwood Park Zoo’s “Zoo Snooze” overnight campouts! Zoo Snooze campouts are recommended for children ages 4 and up. Outside food and beverages are permitted, but coolers will be checked upon entry to the zoo. Outside alcohol is strictly prohibited, and any guests caught with alcohol will be asked to leave the event without a refund.     Attention all young heroes! Join us Saturday, October 10 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM as we learn all about safety and the heroes that serve our community! Fire Smart – Safety Day is presented by Rush Order Tees/Ninja Transfers. This event is free to attend with zoo admission. Community Passes will not be accepted. As always, First responders receive free zoo admission. Current police officers, firefighters, and EMT personnel must show valid credentials at the admission counter. Fire and police badges, identification cards, and responders in uniform are accepted only if accompanied by photo ID. Families attending the event with police officers, firefighters, and EMT personnel will receive a discounted admission rate of $5.00. Discounted family admission rate is only available at the gate.

  • Heritage Day Fall Festival

    The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates are excited to celebrate the arrival of fall with the Homestead’s annual Heritage Day event. Heritage Day features a variety of colonial and early American demonstrations, trades, and hands-on activities. This year’s highlights include blacksmithing and gunsmithing, candle dipping and quill pen writing, leatherworking, open hearth cooking, spinning, and an eighteenth-century fashion display. Plus, Stone House History will be returning this year with their tape weaving and wood carving demonstrations. The event also includes a variety of artisan craft and specialty food vendors plus fall activities for children like pumpkin painting. The Boone House and the Bertolet Log House will be open for tours as well. And because one event is not enough and we want to keep celebrating America250 all year long, we’ll be expanding this year’s Heritage Day to include some 250th-themed demonstrations and activities.   • Pumpkin Science Lab

    You've heard of pumpkin carving, but what about pumpkin SCIENCE? The whole family is invited to engage in some hands-on (and at times messy) science exploration focused on your favorite fall gourd: the pumpkin! Each family will work with their own pumpkin though a series of activities including scientific observation, a guided pumpkin dissection, and a pumpkin seed investigation! And yes, you'll get the chance to carve your pumpkin at the end of our experiments. This lab program is filled with testing, inquiry, and messy fun for everyone! The cost of registration is per pumpkin for a family of up to four people, making this a fun, shared experience for siblings and caregivers! Please note, end times are approximate.     Celebrate the fall at our Autumn Leaf Fest! Kids and families will explore the colors and shapes of the season, get wild while jumping in leaf piles, and channel their creativity through various leaf-themed crafts including leaf pressing and leaf painting. Learn, laugh, and enjoy all things leaves! This program will run concurrently with an adults-only Autumn Leaf Fest hike, allowing caregivers to enjoy an afternoon of relaxed leaf peeping as welll! Please note, children may only be dropped off and left under the supervision of Berks Nature staff ONLY if their caregiver is attending the adults-only Autumn Leaf Fest hike.     Get spooky with Berks Nature on this sweet adventure! Put on your favorite costume and take a guided twilight hike through Angelica Creek Park, collecting candy from baskets placed along the trail - it's trick-or-treating in the park! A Berks Nature naturalist will help you spot other unexpected treats, like animal signs or nocturnal wildlife. At the end of the hike, settle down for even more sweets: roasted s'mores over our crackling fire pit. Costumes are encouraged but not required, but please bring a flashlight for the hike.
