The Gay Street Open-Air Market returns for 2026 from Friday, May 1st to Sunday, September 27th! The Open-Air Market gives residents and visitors more space to shop, eat, and explore town. Four blocks of Gay Street are closed to vehicles every weekend, transforming into a pedestrian-friendly destination that is perfect for outdoor dining, boutique shopping, and leisurely strolls. Important Details:• Where: Gay Street (from Matlack Street to Darlington Street)• When: Every weekend (Friday morning through Monday morning) from May 1st – September 27th• Website: www.downtownwestchester.com/openairmarket• Parking: www.downtownwestchester.com/parking General Notes:• The streets are closed from roughly Friday at 8am to Monday at 8am.• Gay Street will also be closed to vehicles on Monday holidays and will start early on Thursdays ahead of Friday holidays.• Construction for new bollards is underway at several intersections on Gay Street. This program will run concurrently with an adults-only Paint by the Pond program, allowing caregivers to enjoy an afternoon of relaxed painting as well! Meet at the Museum for a low-key cruise-in from 4:00 - 7:00 pm! Held in the Museum parking lot, adjacent to the Museum entrance. No registration is required. Drop your kids off at The Nature Place for a full day of exploring Angelica Creek Park, scientific experiments, and other hands-on activities perfect for the curious, adventure-seeker! Best for children aged 6+. Please pack a lunch and prepare your child appropriately for the outdoors and weather. In October, the Nature Explorers will find their muse in nature and get creative with painting, journaling, and nature mandalas! Each activity will challenge the Explorers to look closely at colors, shapes, and patterns found in the natural world while making "leave no trace" art that does not harm the environment. This hands-on day blends creativity, outdoor exploration, and gentle lessons in stewardship, giving kids a chance to express themselves while appreciating the space around them. Scholarships are available! We believe nature should be accessible and welcoming to all. With the support of our donors, Berks Nature is able to offer scholarships to children hoping to participate in the Nature Explorers program that would otherwise be financially unable to. “Oh, look. Another glorious morning. Makes me sick!” We’re hosting a series of special drive-in movie screenings in the Zoo’s parking lot! Our first Drive-In Zoovie in October is Hocus Pocus (1993). See below for tickets and details. Our drive-in screenings are held in the former softball field section of the Zoo’s parking lot. Concessions will be available for purchase during the film. In the event of inclement weather, all ticket holders will be notified if a screening is canceled or rescheduled 2 weeks prior to the event. The radio station frequency broadcasting the film’s audio to cars will be provided to ticket holders in advance of the event.
