We'll walk the trails together enjoying nature and keeping an eye out for a touch of magic... we'll then end our adventure by getting cozy and toasting s'mores by the fire. This hike is the perfect mix of fresh air, friendly faces, and toasty treats, so bring the whole family to enjoy the adventure! Parents do not need to register.

  • Search for the McKaig Pot-of-Gold – S’mores & Bonfire

    Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear, the event is rain or shine. Bring smiles, flashlights and maybe something to sit on. There will be a bonfire or 2 in a fire containers at the event. We will provide roasting sticks, s'more kits along with wet wipes. Unleash your inner explorer and join the McKaig "Search for the Pot o' Gold"! Families and friends are invited to embark on a treasure hunt adventure on Saturday, March 14th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Our mischievous Leprechaun has hidden his treasure, and we need your help to find it! Follow St. Patrick's footsteps using your emailed treasure map (with instructions!) to discover the pot o' gold hidden somewhere in the woods. The hunt will take about 45 minutes, and when you find the pot, you'll receive some "gold" coins of your own! After your successful quest, gather around our roaring bonfire for classic s'mores and share your discoveries with fellow adventurers. McKaig members can join the fun for just $24 per group of 4, while non-members can participate for $28 per group. Don't miss this exciting and treasure-filled evening!

Trained educators lead students grades K-6 on unique nature-themed explorations that take advantage of our science lab, Discovery Center, and 365 acres of beautiful wooded trails, streams, and ponds. Please bring a packed lunch, water bottle and an extra set of clothes. Wear weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty.     Drop your kids off at The Nature Place for a full day of exploring Angelica Creek Park, scientific experiments, and other hands-on activities perfect for the curious, adventure-seeker! You pack the lunch, and we'll take care of the rest! Best for children aged 6+. Please pack a lunch and prepare your child appropriately for the outdoors and weather. Step into the spotlight of creativity and curiosity as we explore nature through photography, film, and art! This month, the Nature Explorers will discover how light, color, and storytelling come together in the great outdoors. From crafting sun prints to creating nature-inspired mini films, this immersive experience blends science, art, and play in the most inspiring classroom of all—nature itself. Scholarships are available! We believe nature should be accessible and welcoming to all. With the support of our donors, Berks Nature is able to offer scholarships to children hoping to participate in the Nature Explorers program that would otherwise be financially unable to.     The "Don’t Get Fooled" Full Moon Hike April 1st, 2026 | 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM Think you’ve seen it all? Think again. This April Fools' Day, we’re heading into the McKaig Nature Education Center for a hike that’s 100% real (we promise), even if the date feels suspicious. With sunset at 7:25 PM and the moon rising at 7:19 PM, we’ll be timing our departure from the Roberts Elementary School parking lot just as the shadows start to play tricks on your eyes. Is that a tree stump or a woodland prankster? Only one way to find out!

    Bring the entire family to The Nature Place for a fun-filled aternoon of nature, wildlife, and outdoor adventure! During the Raptor Egg Hunt, kids will hunt for camouflaged "raptor eggs" hidden across the Nature Play Zone - each one filled with candy and stickers for a wild surprise. Then meet real raptors up close during an exciting LIVE bird show, presented by the John James Audubon Center. They crawl, fly, march, dig, and wiggle..and love them or hate them, our world needs bugs! On this creepy crawly adventure, Nature Explorers will search on land and in the water for insects and other macroinvertebrates, learning the valuable role of these misunderstood animals along the way. Armed with nets, magnifiers, and identification guides, we’ll become full-fledged bug biologists! Scholarships are available! We believe nature should be accessible and welcoming to all.   • Nature Makers: Remake Learning Day

    Budding scientists and artists of all ages, bring your curiosity and get hands-on with nature! Participants will rotate through five “maker stations” to paint rocks, dissect owl pellets, customize a reusable canvas tote bag,   mold wildflower seed bombs, and create  pinecone bird feeders. Inspiration will flow as we learn about local wildlife, plant life cycles, and sustainable choices while making up to five take home art projects.
