The Gay Street Open-Air Market returns for 2026 from Friday, May 1st to Sunday, September 27th! The Open-Air Market gives residents and visitors more space to shop, eat, and explore town. Four blocks of Gay Street are closed to vehicles every weekend, transforming into a pedestrian-friendly destination that is perfect for outdoor dining, boutique shopping, and leisurely strolls. Important Details:• Where: Gay Street (from Matlack Street to Darlington Street)• When: Every weekend (Friday morning through Monday morning) from May 1st – September 27th• Website: www.downtownwestchester.com/openairmarket• Parking: www.downtownwestchester.com/parking General Notes:• The streets are closed from roughly Friday at 8am to Monday at 8am.• Gay Street will also be closed to vehicles on Monday holidays and will start early on Thursdays ahead of Friday holidays.• Construction for new bollards is underway at several intersections on Gay Street. Every day from September 7 through October 26 An autumn tradition continues! For six fun-filled weeks, over 100 scarecrows line the brick pathways of our autumn-tinted Village. Some are inspired by famous characters, some are humorous, some are scary – but all of them are carefully handmade by Philly-area residents and organizations. The display is free and on view every day through October 26. Guests can vote for their favorite scarecrows via the Peddler’s Village mobile app. Creators of the winning scarecrows in each category win prizes. This event, which is part of the museum's GIST (Girls in Science and Technology) program, will introduce young people to the opportunities available in aviation and aerospace engineering! Students will have the chance to explore organizations, companies, and institutions in the aviation industry, and meet professionals in those fields to learn about their careers! We will have hands-on STEM activities, aircraft displays, and a panel discussion with industry professionals about their careers and how they got started - and how your students can too! Students will get to explore new experiences within new industries as we celebrate, empower, and inspire the future generation of aviators! History, Archaeology, & Family Fun! A local favorite, the Fall Festival features a wide variety of historic skills and trades demonstrations, archaeological excavations and activities, displays from local historical organizations, hayrides, and hands-on activities for kids of all ages! In addition there will be vendors of handcrafted goods in the Colonial Market, a beer garden, a Community Corner featuring local businesses and organizations, and food vendors. Admission to the Fall Festival is free. Parking is $10 per car. Shuttle buses between the parking area and the festival site will run every 15 minutes throughout the event.
