When schools are closed, we are open! Keep curious young minds and busy bodies active with the Schuylkill Center Day-Off Camp. Trained educators lead students grades K-6 on unique nature-themed explorations that take advantage of our science lab, Discovery Center, and 365 acres of beautiful wooded trails, streams, and ponds. The theme for this week of spring break Day-Off Camp is Nature Detectives! Each day at camp will feature activities focused on finding and interpreting nature’s clues like tracks, scat, owl pellets, signs of new plant growth, beetle galleries and woodpecker holes in trees, and more! Come search for clues and unravel nature’s mysteries with us! Please bring a packed lunch, water bottle and an extra set of clothes. Wear weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty. Space is limited to 30 campers. Sign up early to guarantee your spot. The "Don’t Get Fooled" Full Moon Hike April 1st, 2026 | 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM Think you’ve seen it all? Think again. This April Fools' Day, we’re heading into the McKaig Nature Education Center for a hike that’s 100% real (we promise), even if the date feels suspicious. With sunset at 7:25 PM and the moon rising at 7:19 PM, we’ll be timing our departure from the Roberts Elementary School parking lot just as the shadows start to play tricks on your eyes. Is that a tree stump or a woodland prankster? Only one way to find out!
Join SLNC’s awesome Environmental Educator, Tie Matecha, for this great class! Learn how to fold origami butterflies and herons. We will discuss the origins of the ancient art of origami as well as the ecological importance of butterflies and Great Blue Herons. This event is designed for adults and children ages 8+. Bring the entire family to The Nature Place for a fun-filled aternoon of nature, wildlife, and outdoor adventure! During the Raptor Egg Hunt, kids will hunt for camouflaged "raptor eggs" hidden across the Nature Play Zone - each one filled with candy and stickers for a wild surprise. Then meet real raptors up close during an exciting LIVE bird show, presented by the John James Audubon Center. As the sun sets on this memorable day, we'll keep the good times going with a cozy campfire, complete with hot dogs and s'mores! Please note, end times are approximate. You pack the lunch, and we'll take care of the rest! Best for children aged 6+. Please pack a lunch and prepare your child appropriately for the outdoors and weather. They crawl, fly, march, dig, and wiggle..and love them or hate them, our world needs bugs! On this creepy crawly adventure, Nature Explorers will search on land and in the water for insects and other macroinvertebrates, learning the valuable role of these misunderstood animals along the way. Armed with nets, magnifiers, and identification guides, we’ll become full-fledged bug biologists! Scholarships are available! We believe nature should be accessible and welcoming to all. With the support of our donors, Berks Nature is able to offer scholarships to children hoping to participate in the Nature Explorers program that would otherwise be financially unable to. Budding scientists and artists of all ages, bring your curiosity and get hands-on with nature! Participants will rotate through five “maker stations” to paint rocks, dissect owl pellets, customize a reusable canvas tote bag, mold wildflower seed bombs, and create pinecone bird feeders. Inspiration will flow as we learn about local wildlife, plant life cycles, and sustainable choices while making up to five take home art projects.
