Buckle up and unfold your map! The giant sand sculptures are returning this summer. For the fifth consecutive year, Peddler’s Village will present a Village-wide sand sculpture display created by world-renowned sand artists. “Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip” will celebrate the iconic landmarks and history of our nation, now in its 250th year. It’s not every day you can travel across the county in just an hour or two (by foot, no less!) to experience the five major regions–Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West–and the fantastic features of each. But this year at Peddler’s Village, we’ve made it possible! You’ll see the Statue of Liberty, the Kennedy Space Center, Mount Rushmore, the Golden Gate Bridge, and more. This free display is open to the public and will be on view to Village pedestrians through August 31. In addition to viewing the sand sculptures, visitors can shop at 60 specialty store and boutiques, dine indoors or outside, and enjoy spectacular gardens and landscaping. Families can enjoy Giggleberry Fair, the indoor fun center. Spacious overnight accommodations are available at the Golden Plough Inn.

We’re excited to partner with Highland Orchards for a meet and greet event on Saturday, August 1st, from 12 - 2 PM. This family-friendly weekend event features live music, food trucks, a beer garden, pick-your-own fruit, and us! Take a break from the festivities to visit with some of our awesome adoptable dogs and dedicated volunteers. Our pups are always up for belly-rubs, and our volunteers will gladly answer your questions about our rescue, adoption process, and foster/volunteer opportunities. Please join us - you might just meet your next best friend! Our Meet & Greets are a great way to get to know us, ask questions, and meet some of our adoptable dogs. While we do not process adoptions at these events, approved adopters can meet potential forever family members and bring them home at an adoption appointment later that same day if he/she is a fit with the whole family. Already an approved adopter and hoping to meet your new family member at this event? Please bring cash or check for the adoption fee. For those just considering adopting, our Meet & Greets are a great way to get a feel for the types of dogs we have available. And for those who just LOVE dogs and want to pet them or learn about fostering/volunteering opportunities, we’re here for you, too! Interested in adopting? Get a head start and fill out an application before the event. Our application, a complete list of our adoptable dogs, and more information about our organization and our adoption process can be found on our website: www.all4pawsrescue.com. Please contact us directly with any questions: info@all4pawsrescue.com. Don’t forget to check our Facebook page the night before this event to learn which dogs are expected to attend. We hope to see you there!

Come join us for this family-favorite First Friday as we celebrate the agricultural community in Oxford! We are so grateful to our presenting sponsor for this event: Hostetter Grain. The roads will be closed in downtown for this First Friday as 70+ tractors parade through town and then park along Third Street. We will have vendors, food trucks, and, of course, our amazing downtown businesses. FREE PARKING for this event thanks to American Mushroom. This year we are pleased to have Cedar Knoll once again sponsor the Straw Bale Throwing Contest along Locust Street. Start lifting weights now to get into tip-top shape! We wanna see those biceps put to the test. We also have a new event we are adding this year -- spouse calling! Think you've got what it takes to get your better half's attention from across the field? Put your lungs and your love to the test in our Spouse Calling Contest! Whether you've perfected a signature holler over decades of marriage or you're just naturally gifted at making someone come running, this is your moment to shine. Contestants will step up to the mic and let loose their best, most creative call for their spouse — and our judges (and the crowd!) will decide whose call is most likely to actually work. Expect plenty of laughs! All are welcome to compete: married, partnered, or just really loud. As a special addition for America's 250th, we will be having Ben Franklin stop by and read the Declaration of Independence. Kids can learn about this important document and get their photo taken next to an oversized Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights. Finally, we will have LIVE MUSIC by DENISE AND MAX in the Neff Parking Lot!

On Friday, August 14th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, drop off your stuffed animal or favorite toy at the front desk of the Chester County History Center.* We’ll take them on an adventure through our museum, even into the secret spaces that the public is usually not allowed to go! Don’t worry about missing anything; we’ll share pictures of every adventure through email, so you can check in with your friend and see what they’re up to. At 7:00PM, after we’ve tucked the stuffies into bed, we’ll read them a bedtime story that you can join in by Zoom to read along with us! This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce little ones to the joy of reuniting after a short period of separation. On Saturday, August 15th from 10:00am to 1:00pm, come pick up your friend and enjoy a scrapbooking craft of their adventures. The scrapbooking craft runs continuously, so your family can visit anytime between 10:00am to 1:00pm and still get the full experience! Tickets are $10.00 per stuffed animal, and include admission for one child and one parent or guardian for the Saturday craft activity, with access to the entire museum for the day. On Saturday, August 22, join the Friends of the Tanger Arboretum for a special nighttime Nature Series program called “The Nocturnal World of Moths!” Moths are incredibly diverse and beautiful insects, well adapted to avoid predation and find love in the dark. Yet we hardly know them due to their nocturnal behavior. Join Lancaster Conservancy Naturalist Keith Williams for a presentation about the biology and ecology of these nocturnal beauties, followed by a special moth lighting set up to see what moths we may attract in the Tanger Arboretum! What is a moth lighting? A moth lighting (also called ‘mothing’ or ‘light-sheeting’) is an activity where an artificial light source is used to attract moths and other nighttime insects to a white sheet, allowing for individuals to look at the nocturnal specimens up close. We’ll attempt to attract moths on August 22 using this method. Keith Williams is a naturalist, educator, writer and photographer. He has a BS in Environmental Biology from Kutztown University and MS in Ecological Teaching and Learning from the Lesley University Audubon Expedition Institute. He has been taking people into backcountry settings for 30 years and has established outdoor education programs across the contiguous US, China, and in Puerto Rico. His first book, Snorkelhead, Adventures in River Snorkeling, was published in 2016, and his second river snorkeling book, Snorkeling Rivers and Streams an Aquatic Guide to Underwater Discovery and Adventure, was published by Stackpole Books in March 2020. Keith is the Vice President for Engagement and Education at the Lancaster Conservancy where he serves as the conservancies lead naturalist, develops and manages volunteer and education programs, and manages the interpretive ranger program. He is a Nationally Registered Paramedic, Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician, Wilderness medicine instructor, swift water rescue technician and wildlands firefighter. HOW TO REGISTER The program, “The Nocturnal World of Moths” will take place on Saturday, August 22 from 8-10pm in the Carriage House at the LancasterHistory Museum & Research Center. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10/Adults (18+) and Free for Children 17 and Under (must be accompanied by an adult). Friends of the Tanger Arboretum members receive complimentary admission, but should still register for the program. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling 717.392.4633. Advance tickets recommended as walk-in tickets are not guaranteed.

Butterflies get all the attention, whereas the moths of the night are just as beautiful and whimsical as their daytime cousins! In this after dark adventure, we'll setup a moth observation station to provide a rare chance to meet these nocturnal beauties up close. As the moths gather, we'll take a closer look at the different species and demonstrate how to identify and observe these delicate insects in a safe and respectful way. Throughout the night, join in discussions about light pollution and the impacts our brightly lit homes can impact moth behavior, navigation, and survival. In a world full of artificial light, take a night off to enjoy nature that comes alive in the dark. Please note, end times are approximate. Registration closes September 3rd. Free Event!
